"Did you ever have a hard drive “freeze up?” Before you call for help or (heaven forbid) throw it away, try this trick. Put it in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes. Take it out and turn it on -- it might work. I’m a believer.
Here’s why. Your hard drive is metal and when it gets warm it can expand thereby causing it to “freeze.” By cooling it you may cause the metal to shrink and the drive may start working!
I often wondered about this. Until one day my backup laptop died completely. I took it into a computer place and they told me it was dead; the hard drive was gone and so was the motherboard. Fortunately, I had backed up the important data.I brought it home and put it in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes. When I took it out, it ran better than it had for at least 6 months. I told a QuickBooks friend about this. He has an IT company in South Carolina. He said yes, he did know about this; they have a refrigerator in their offices that no one can use for food!
